A09-05: Channels and Masks Practice
Objectives:
- Practice removing objects from their background using channels and masks, and then adding them to a design layout.
- Create a composite graphic design image.
Apply What You've Learned So Far!:
Exercise A09-05A: Challenge: Remove subject from background and place into a design layout.
For this exercise, use what you've learned about channels and masking to pull figures from their backgrounds and place them in a design layout that you've designed. Below, I've created a design layout that I've used in four different variations. Can you see how I've used the principles of contrast, repetition, alignment, proximity, font choice, etc.? Your challenge is to do something similar - cut a subject from its background, and create a design layout to use it in. You can find free to use images at Pixabay and Pexels. Save your Photoshop file as A09-05A_Your_Name.PSD. You will submit this as part of the lesson 9 exercises assignment. Something along this line would make a great portfolio exhibit! |
Exercise A09-05B: Challenge: Remove subjects from backgrounds and create a composite design layout.
For this exercise, use what you've learned about channels and masking to pull figures from their backgrounds and create a composite image from them. Below, I've provided a few examples both of my own, and from other artists. Your challenge is similar, can you pull multiple subjects from their backgrounds and compile them into a composite design? Again, you can find free-to-use images at Pixabay and Pexels. Save your Photoshop file as A09-059_Your_Name.PSD. You will submit this as part of the lesson 9 exercises assignment. Something along this line would make a great portfolio exhibit! |
