The last section of our class textbook, Visual Language for Designers, taught about charging up images. This section of the lesson goes into that in more detail. When you design a graphic or take a photograph, thinking about how you can charge it up should be on your mental checklist of possibilities. Graphics can convey emotion if they are charged with significance and personal meaning. Our brains are finely attuned to emotion and feelings, even on a pre-attentive level. Images that convey emotion will pop out in an arrangement of otherwise neutral pictures. People prefer emotional pictures to neutral ones; we don't like being bored.
