As we've discussed the principle of alignment, we've learned that applying that principle can bring order from chaos. It can lead the eye by forming strong visual lines. Alignment uses the gestalt principle of continuation, because our pre-attentive visual processing causes our eyes to naturally follow a line or curve - even if it is only implied.
Grids are used widely in web design, magazine layouts, and other print media such as brochures, flyers, etc. Photoshop has ways to set up grids by dragging grid lines from the rulers. Watch the videos on this page! The first video below, Creating Grids and Guides in Photoshop, will show how to do that in Photoshop. The second video will show you how use Photoshop's new frame tool.
